ARMA New Jersey Needs You!

Are you passionate about our industry?  Do you have thoughts about what content you’d like to see at educational events? Interested in expanding your network? Want to continue to develop your leadership skills?  Have we got a job for you!

ARMA NJ is looking for people who are keen to join us in advancing our mission and strategic plan through service on Chapter committees.  Participating in the chapter’s planning is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the chapter, participate in strategic decisions, and develop activities and events that meet all of our information governance and record and information management needs.   While there is a time commitment involved, the benefits you reap are incalculable.

If you are interested in furthering your career, getting involved at ARMA NJ is a good start. For most people, creating professional relationships is important, and participating allows you to share ideas, ask for advice, and help to establish the direction of the Chapter.  You will have the opportunity to learn about breaking news in our field, learn "best practices" and new ideas, and meet and brainstorm with others who are also looking to share and learn new information.  Giving back can be the greatest reward and benefit. We recognize that you're busy so we make getting involved easy.  You can participate at whatever level suits you.

We  have a number of “standing” committees and participation is open to everyone.  If you’re interested in getting your toes wet – that is just getting in on a minimal level – participating as a committee volunteer is the way to go.  If you’re interested in participating on any of the committees listed below, please let us know.

The Awards Committee is led by the Immediate Past President and is responsible for promoting participation in chapter activities and recognizing members and leaders in the Chapter for achievements and contributions to the information governance profession and to our Chapter.

The committee is led by the VP Membership and is responsible for promoting growth of the chapter and the Association by adding and retaining membership within the chapter and the Association.  Volunteerto be a contact or mentor for a new member; reach out to prospective members, work the registration table at chapter events, etc.

The Nominating Committee is chaired by the Immediate Past President and identifies and solicits volunteers to fill any elective office that will be open in the coming year. This committee begins working in March and needs to have a slate of candidates prepared by distribution to the membership in May for voting and approval. The committee may secure advice from any sources it desires, but the slate is determined by the committee.

Ever attended an ARMA or other association event and thought, "I’ve got a great idea for a speaker or topic"? Or have you received an invite to an event and thought, "Why did they pick that location"?  If so, this is the opportunity for you.  Even if your time is limited; participation is welcome at all levels.  Only available to assist with one event? – That’s okay!  Volunteer to develop and run an entire event or offer your time to assist with anyone of the following:

  • Selecting speaker/topic
  • Identifying venues
  • Coordinating with other chapters or associations
  • Determining meeting formats – breakfast/dinner meeting
  • Picking the menu and the caterer
  • Designing invitations
  • Tracking RSVPs
  • Working the registration desk at event

This committee is responsible for organizing and overseeing chapter and outreach special events, including the annual networking event,  and the end of year celebration. Committee members also support community outreach projects and other projects as are determined by the Board.  The Immediate Past President of the Chapter will serve as the Committee advisor.  Volunteer to develop and run an entire event or offer your time to assist with anyone of the following:

  • Identifying venue
  • Arrange food, beverages, entertainment or other programming
  • Designing invitation
  • Tracking RSVPs
  • EMCEE the event

Help identify potential sponsors for events and programming; and help ensure that the Chapter is fulfilling its commitment to our sponsors.

STILL THINK YOU CAN’T HELP?  If you have time to spare once a month during chapter season (September - June) to assist with meeting set-up and take down, help us pick up food or beverages for events, assist the Treasurer checking attendees in at the front door and other duties, we would love to hear from you.

If you would like to know more about any of these roles, please contact Jacki Cheslow, VP Professional Development at [email protected].
