Keeping Training Up to Date in the 21st Century

How can you make training stick when communicating with modern audiences? We'll review some key principles of successful learning and communication and how these apply to technical, complex topics like records management, IT security, and more.  Topics include:

  • Understanding the modern learner in a digital world
  • The power of retrieval and repetition
  • How spacing, interleaving, and deliberate retrieval cues can boost retention

Kirston Liston, Managing Principal and Founder | ReThink Compliance

For more than 20 years, Kirsten has worked with leading Fortune 500 and Global 2000 companies to implement strategies and tactics that reduce compliance, ethics, and reputational risk, including the design and delivery of business conduct programs. She founded Rethink Compliance with one goal: To create products that give compliance officers better, more effective tools to drive behavior and culture change in large global organizations.

She has extensive experience creating materials to address a wide variety of compliance topics, from industry-specific concerns in pharmaceutical, automotive, and consumer products businesses to general corporate compliance topics like competition law, anti-bribery, privacy, and respect. She has written Codes of Conduct and other compliance policies, and consults on the strategy and design of effective compliance programs, including how best to incorporate modern communications techniques and tools.

Kirsten is a former journalist, writing for Minnesota Law & Politics and Super Lawyers. Her articles have been published in Compliance & Ethics Magazine, Compliance & Ethics Professional, Compliance Week, and Directors and Boards. She is a frequent speaker at industry conferences, including events hosted by Compliance Week, Ethisphere, the Ethics and Compliance Officer Association (ECOA), and the Society for Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE). She is the author of the 2019 book “Creating Great Compliance Training in a Digital World: How to Reach and Persuade Your Audience.”
