Considerations Before Migrating Data to the Cloud

Organizations are aggressively moving to cloud based solutions for email, collaboration, file sharing, customer relationship management and other applications. The benefits of cloud based solutions include:

  • Increasing storage capacity while managing the IT spend

  • Reducing the continued reliance on corporate IT resources

  • Leveraging the wide array of technology vendors who may be better positioned to address evolving cybersecurity and data privacy challenges

Often times, this activity is managed and viewed as a technology project - moving a group of systems from one location to another.  It is critical that companies look beyond the technical advantages of migrating to the cloud prior to making this investment.  The implications are much more broad than just addressing the scope of information technology changes and need coordination across all levels of an organization to ensure that the migration meets with success.  These considerations apply to organizations of any size across multiple industries.

While it may seem easy to “flip the switch”, there are many areas that need to be clearly understood and defined prior to moving to the cloud. Join the ARMA of Northern New Jersey Chapter on September 14th for a networking event and professional development program as we provide an informative and interactive session where vendors and practitioners will share their experiences, lessons learned, and leading best practices surrounding cloud migration projects.  Topics of discussion to be addressed will include:

  • Retention and Legal Hold

  • Technology Considerations

  • Data Privacy

  • Change Management

  • Contract Considerations
